Exciting news from our 4-H club! 🌱 Yesterday, we kicked off our gardening season by planting potatoes and onions!🥔🧅 It was a fantastic learning experience for everyone, and we can't wait to watch them grow. We are excited for our Spartans to LEAP to success! YDMS will participate in state-wide LEAP 2025 Testing April 9th-April15th. It is important for students to be present at school during these days. If possible, please arrange medical appointments during non-testing days. Parents, please see the LDOE-provided "Parent Guide to the LEAP 2025 Tests" for additional information.
While the following has been included on every progress report this year, please note:
GRADES 6-7: A student must earn a total of 6 1/2 courses of study in an eight-period day schedule, one of which must be reading/language or mathematics, in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Students must also meet attendance requirements.
GRADE 8: A student must earn a total of 6 1/2 courses of study in an eight-period day schedule, one of which must be reading/language or mathematics, in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Eighth grade students shall score at least at the “Basic” achievement level in either English language arts or mathematics and “Approaching Basic” in the other subjects in order to be promoted to the ninth grade. Students who do not meet the promotion standard after taking the eighth-grade state assessments in the spring, following the completion of remediation, may be placed on a high school campus in the transitional ninth grade. Students must also meet attendance requirements.

The Spartan Travel Club is in full effect! We hit the ground running on Tuesday with visits to amazing sites in Washington D.C.! The Students visited The Arlington Cemetery and were honored to hear the 21 Gun Salute Tribute and saw the landing in the distance of Air Force One! Many more adventures await us -The Smithsonian, African-American History Museum and The Library of Congress and more!

Today's highlights included exploring St. Joseph Plantation, a flavorful history lesson at Spuddy's over lunch, and a captivating tour of Avery Island. Our 8th grade Louisiana tour is in full swing and today was incredible! We set sail on the mighty Mississippi with a cruise on the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen, walked the hallowed grounds of the Battle of Chalmette, and gained a deeper understanding of history at the National WWII Museum. A guided tour of New Orleans revealed the city's rich past, and we capped off the night with dinner and games at Dave & Buster's. A truly unforgettable day! What an inspiring day on our Louisiana Tour 2025! We kicked things off with a tour of the State Capitol, where we were fortunate enough to have Senator Caleb Kleinpeter take time out of his busy schedule to speak with our students. He gave them an inside look at what it's like to be a senator and the process of passing a bill. It was a fantastic learning experience! 🎤 YDMS Talent Show Auditions Information 🎭
Talent Show Date: Thursday, May 1st, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Audition Date: Thursday, April 3rd, 3:30 - 6:30 PM in the auditorium
The Audition Google form must be completed by March 31st
Dress Rehearsal: Wednesday, April 30th, 3:30 - 6:30 PM (Mandatory for all performers)
🌟 Rules & Regulations:
Open to a variety of acts: singing, dancing, skits, magic, comedy, juggling, and more!
Acts must be under 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
Performers must be YDMS students; one adult accompanist allowed if needed.
Only one act per student.
All lyrics must be fully appropriate; clean versions of explicit songs are not allowed.
Acts must be fully prepared with memorized content and completed choreography.
Music accompaniments can be live or recorded; bring your audio file to auditions.
Costumes must be described on the audition form, but not purchased yet.
10-12 acts will be selected, with announcements on April 4th.
A $25 entry fee applies to selected acts.
📋 Procedures:
Audition Packets can be picked up in the front office or in Mr. McDade’s classroom (802).
Each participant must fill out the "Contract, Contact, and Permission Form."
One participant per act must fill out the "Act Information Form."
Attach printed lyrics to the "Act Information Form."
All forms and lyrics must be stapled together and submitted at auditions.
No audition without a signed contract!
